What Is Religion

What is religion you might be saying for you have been bought to this place by the Lord himself.

Then let these words take you further along the path you are walking as to what is religion and was Jesus our blessed Lord and savior religious.

Defining Religion

Defining the word "religion" is fraught with difficulty, even our dictionaries cannot agree what this word means.

The English word "religion" is derived from the Middle English "religion" which came from the Old French "religion."

It may have been originally derived from the Latin word "religo" which means "good faith," "ritual," and other similar meanings. Or it may have come from the Latin "religãre" which means "to tie fast."

This word is used to describe all the faiths including Christianity. However the question here is was Jesus Christ religious?

Was Jesus Religious?

When I turn the pages of the bible in my heart and before my eyes this is not what I see or hear. I see Jesus standing against those who walk in traditions and their laws.

About Alms He said:

Matthew 6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

About Praying He said;

Matthew 6:5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

About Fasting He said;

Matthew 6:16Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Who was He speaking to;

Matthew 23:13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

He was speaking to the "religious" and see what He said happens what religion and the religious do to men. They stop men entering into the kingdom of heaven, these ones do not enter in either.

If that is not enough they suffer not those that with all their heart want to enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Religion will stop you entering fully into the kingdom of heaven. You may have Christ as your savior but you will not be allowed to grow in the Lord in the person you can be, they will not let you.

This is what Jesus said to these ones; Luke 13:34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

This is what the religious of the day planned against Paul.

Acts 23:12And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

Suffice to say, they failed because the Lord was with Paul, one sent to preach the TRUTH.

Start asking questions on any area that the spirit of truth has been teaching you or preaching the Truth, then these ones will persecute you, in some countries, take your life or throw you out of the fellowship you are in all in the name of religion.

Jesus used a strong word in describing the religious, "hypocrites".

Jesus was not religious nor did he walk in religion. You can see this as you listen and walk with Him. The more time you spend with Him not men who walk in these places this becomes so obvious.

1 John 2:27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

This word says because of the anointing you have received you need not any man to teach you. The Lord will teach you Himself and as you walk in those teachings you shall abide in Him.

Come out of the religion of man and walk not with those who are religious for surely they will drain all life from you.
