Born Again of the Spirit
What does born again of the spirit mean you may say, or you may be saying, How
can one be born again? This is exactly the same question asked by Nicodemus.
John 3:4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can
a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
Before we give Jesus' answer let take a moment and go back to the beginning, Genesis
2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath
of life; and man became a living soul.
God Almighty breathed life into us, so in fact we were born of His spirit. And at that time man
was covered by the Glory of God and could see and hear God and everything that pertained to Him.
When man fell or sinned that connection to the spirit of God was broken or severed.
Man is a spirit with a soul living in a body. Walking in ourselves we see only the visible of this world not the
invisible.
Matthew 3:16: And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up
straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending
like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Jesus when born was born as a man and before he started His ministry upon this earth, He was
baptised of water and filled with God's Holy Spirit.
So should not we have to follow the same
process?
Jesus answered Nicodemus, John 3:3-12: Jesus answered and
said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of
God.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old?
can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be
born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born
of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound
thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the
Spirit.
Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things
be?
Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and
knowest not these things?
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and
testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not,
how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
Read carefully what Jesus said and note very carefully that Nicodemus had no understanding
of what was being said or had been said by Jesus prior to this meeting even though He was a master in the Law
of God.
Firstly: Except a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.
Secondly: Except a man be born of water
and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
So if one is not born again one cannot see the kingdom of God. Jesus was not meaning
when one left this earth, He was talking when one was alive and walking upon this earth.
If you remained in the flesh of man you would not see the things of Kingdom of God on this
earth. (That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the
Spirit is spirit.)
Next statement Jesus made was, man needed to be born of water and of the spirit otherwise one
could not enter into the Kingdom of God.
Was He saying when you passed from this earth. Again NO, He was talking
about whilst one is on this earth. He meant you could not and would not walk as He did.
Men without God's spirit within cannot see the things of God on this earth and cannot perform
anything that Jesus did whilst He was on this earth.
You also will not understand any of the things of God either because it is the Holy Spirit /
Spirit of Truth that reveals all things of God unto one.
You may be saved but without following exactly what Jesus did then the end result is that one
will never see the kingdom of God on this earth and will not enter into the
spiritual kingdom of God on this earth either.
Final point: One of the meanings of
disciple is imitator or follower of a doctrine. So why is not God's people doing what Jesus told us to do? Why
are you following the doctrine of man instead? Jesus said "If you love me you will do what I command".
